"Think Natural" attitude

The wind turbine(s) on the peeled tomatoes label below caught our eye, and we like the Valfrutta "attitude" and logo.

Let's hope it "does what it says on the tin"...

Renewables 2015 Global Status Report

Just published on the website of the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21):

The newly released Renewables 2015 Global Status Report is now available. Find out what made 2014 another record year for renewables.

First released in 2005, REN21’s Renewables Global Status Report (GSR) provides a comprehensive and timely overview of renewable energy market, industry, investment and policy developments worldwide. It enables policymakers, industry, investors and civil society to make informed decisions. The Renewables Global Status Report relies on up-to-date renewable energy data, provided by an international network of more than 500 contributors, researchers, and authors.

Check out REN21’s Renewables Interactive Map for country specific data underlying the various trends highlighted in the GSR.

Need to fire on all energy efficiency and renewables cylinders

Some have been "preaching" for years, even decades, that we need to fire on all energy efficiency and renewables cylinders. See 1992 public enquiry "evidence" here, for example.

Projected annual primary energy use in the UK, from:
Boyle, S., 1988, An alternative energy path for the UK, Friends of the Earth, London
Quote: "Most importantly, coupled with a programme of improved energy efficiency, renewable energy can begin to displace fossil fuels and nuclear power and thus help reduce the risks to the environment from acid rain, the accumulation of nuclear waste, the threat of nuclear accidents, nuclear weapons proliferation and climate change"

VisitScotland supports windfarms

Eminently sensible statement from VisitScotland in the context of yet another fury outburst from short-sighted anti-wind campaigners:
"VisitScotland supports the drive for renewable energy and recognises the potential of Scotland’s vast resource. It is well documented that the vast majority of potential visitors would not be discouraged from visiting Scotland on account of wind farm developments".
